Recurve This bow consists of three parts: Top Limb, Bottom Limb and Handle (Riser). These require a stringer to put together and any number of attachments can be added to it. e.g. stabilisers, sights and bow stands.
Compound These bows have wheels (cams) at either end of the bow. They are typically shorter than the Recurve but have a much flatter trajectory. Because of the cams, the draw weight is taken off the archer when at full draw.
Longbow The longbow is the type of bow Robin Hood traditionally used and is simply a stick with a string (although great skill is required to make them) and is taller than the archer and shot off the hand. No arrow rest or sight or any other attachment is used on the bow. The longbow was used in many wars until the 1600's when gunpowder weapons became efficient enough for war use. They were famously used in the battle of Agincourt, Castillion, Formigny, Patay, Poitiers and Crécy.
